Australian national flag
These are my designs for a new national flag.
Australia's current flag is known as a "defaced blue ensign", consisting of a blue field, the stars of the Southern Cross and a larger Commonwealth (Federation) Star to the left. In the canton (upper hoist quarter) is the British flag signifying our colonial roots. Like many others I am of the view the Australian flag should not include the flag of another nation. From the time of our foundation in 1788 to our federation and independence in 1901, Australia developed under British systems of government and law. Our heritage was set long ago and will remain strong in the hearts and minds of all Aussies, but the time for the nation to represent itself here and abroad with wholly Australian symbols and regalia (including an Australian head of state) is long overdue. Many designs have been put forward for a new flag over the years - this is my contribution. If you like them please feel free to copy and use as you wish. Copyright is waived.
